Please note: if the 'lamp-only' reversing system you are considering uses any kind of flashing lamp or any forwards-facing red coloured lamp, then it does not conform to current UK lighting regulations (although certain emergency vehicle lighting configurations are exempted). For the general haulier, the guidelines on trailer/rear of vehicle lighting are clear: no forwards-facing flashing lamps and no forwards-facing red lamps of any description are permitted for such use. DfT have advised that if your vehicle does not fall into any of the emergency vehicle categories and your vehicle is spot-checked, you may be liable for prosecution. Likewise, if you are involved in a reversing accident whilst using such a system, your insurance may be invalidated.
